Brexit Extension.….Again

Theresa May has written a letter to EU asking for an extension until June 30, 2019.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has written a letter to European Council President Donald Tusk on early Friday asking for an extension of Brexit until up to June 30, 2019.

The United Kingdom initially aimed to leave the EU on March 29, 2019, but the deals that May proposed to her parliament had been constantly rejected by a landslide vote. Even her own party members voted against her, claiming that the deals were favorable for the EU and some commitment with the EU still lingered.

Since the deal could not be achieved, May asked for a delay and was granted an extension to April 12, if the UK does not get any deal, and on May 22 if her deal got approved by the parliament.

However, her deal was not approved, even the indicative votes also could not find the majority vote on any proposals. Which is why May has to write this letter to ask for an extension since the parliament had agreed on not to leave the bloc without a deal while denying every deal existed.

May also states in her letter that she still hopes to get UK out of the EU earlier to avoid the participation in European elections on May 23-26.

Adam Fleming, Brussels correspondent for BBC News, said that the EU might approve this extension, but would make a clear regulation that if this does not work out again, the next deadline would be on March 2020 as EU members do not want to go back and forth to Brussel every month for a request of an extension from the UK.
