Trump to Discuss Trade Talk with Xi in the Sidelines of G20 with “No Preconditions”
Trump had agreed to meet Xi with no pre-conditions while maintaining the threat to impose new tariffs on Chinese goods worth $300 billion if the talk fails.
In the sidelines of G20 summit on June 29, 2019, the U.S. President Donald Trump and the Chinese President Xi Jinping were scheduled to have a trade talk at 11:00 a.m. (9:00 a.m. in Thailand) which will decide the direction of global economics for the next few months.
White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said yesterday that Trump had agreed to meet Xi with no preconditions while maintaining the threat to impose new tariffs on Chinese products worth $300 billion if the talk fails.
“There are no preconditions,” said Kudlow. “President Trump looks forward to the meeting. We believe it’s quite possible if the meeting goes well that the Chinese will come back to the negotiating table and we might be able to pick up where we left off in May.”
The “no preconditions” comes after several reports of China would want the U.S. to delist Chinese telecom equipment giant, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., from its black list as a part of this trade deal. Later, Kudlow dismissed the news.
“If something good comes out of those talks or China were to offer us a good deal in the future then we might be willing to change some of our views,” stated Kudlow.
