Covid-19 Cases Top 40 Million, WHO Warns Death Toll Could Double before Vaccine Success

Global Covid-19 infections exceeded 40 million on Monday, according to Reuters compiled, pointing out the beginning of winter in the northern hemisphere fuelled a resurgence in coronavirus cases.

 

As of Reuters data, the pace of the pandemic continues to pick up, it took only 32 days for the number of confirmed cases from 30 million to 40 million globally, compared with the 38 days to get from 20 million to 30 million and the 44 days between 10 million and 20 million. 

 

Currently, the United States, India and Brazil remain the top-three worst countries hit by the Covid-19 outbreak, combining accounts for more than 20 million cases. Meanwhile worldwide death toll surpassed 1.1 million, the fatality rate hovering around 2.8% of the total cases.

 

The World Health Organization (WHO) stated the death rate across the globe from pandemic could double to 2 million before a successful vaccine is widely used and could be even higher without concerted action to curb the pandemic.
