England Found a New Mutated Coronavirus that Could Cause Vaccine No Longer Work
England found a new variant of coronavirus spreading in parts of the south-east region including London, which said the new variant is going faster than the existing variant. More than 1,000 cases have been identified in nearly 60 different local authority areas over the last week, said the UK Health Secretary.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock told the Members of Parliament in the House of Commons on Monday (December 14) that the number of cases that have been identified with a virus mutated is increasing rapidly predominantly in the south of England and a similar variant has been identified in other countries over the last few months as well.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has been notified regarding this issue and UK scientists were doing detailed studies.
However, he said as of now there was nothing to suggest this variant could cause worse/serious disease or the mutation would fail to respond to the vaccine – likely to no longer work.
