Thai stock market edged higher in the afternoon session of Friday, August 27, 2021, after the CCSA announced the relaxation of some Covid-19 restrictions, causing a high trading volume in big-cap stocks and a buying pressure from foreign investors.
As of 14:53 local time in Thailand, SET Index rose 12.67 points (+0.79%) to 1614.84 points, with a trading value of 61.03 billion baht.
According to RHB Securities (Thailand), the SET Index gained ten points in the afternoon session, outperforming most regional and European markets, which have been trading sideways ahead of the Fed’s Jackson Hole meeting statement.
In the afternoon, the Thai market was heavily driven by the CCSA meeting’s resolution. CCSA will lessen some of Covid-19 lockdowns beginning September 1, but the night curfew will remain. As a consequence, it may continue to exert pressure on the market, but if all restrictions are lifted, presumably by late September, the market may be upbeat again.
