Asian Stocks Trade Higher after Wall Street Bounces Back Last Night

Stocks in Asia traded mostly higher in the morning session on Friday as investors continue to monitor the development of China Evergrande Group, while Wall Street closed higher yesterday.

 

As of 10:08 local time in Thailand on September 24, 2021, Nikkei rose 1.89%, Shanghai Composite increased 0.08%, Hang Seng Index gained 0.49%, Australia ASX200 dropped 0.39% and Indonesia IDX Composite edged 0.15% higher.

Thailand stock exchange closed on a holiday.

 

On Friday, China Evergrande Group has yet to make any announcement whether it has fulfilled its commitment on interest payment worth $83 million for a $2 billion dollar-denominated bond that is due to mature in March 2022.

 

Over the night, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 506.50 points or 1.48% to close at 34,764.82 points. S&P 500 gained 1.21% and Nasdaq increased 1.04%.

The U.S. jobless claims last week rose to 351,000, an increase from the revised figure of 335,000 the week before and also higher than the 320,000 Dow Jones estimate.
