China to Exempt a Tariff on 700 US Goods Due to the Covid-19 Outbreak

Amid the long chronicle virus outbreak, the Chinese Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council has announced on Tuesday to release a regulation to permit importer business to apply for tariff exemptions on about 700 types of US goods.

The tariff exemption is objected to supporting enterprises to import products from the US as currently the country is facing the shortage of goods and meats. The list contains 697 product lines, from soybeans, pork, and beef, to liquefied natural gas and crude oil and also includes medical equipment, particularly thermometers.

China is now looking for new supply sources of meat and medical products from worldwide due to the country’s own output is unable to meet demand.

The new regulation will be effective for only one year and the importer can apply from March 2 onwards.
