Japan’s PM Abe Says Tokyo Olympics Delaying Is Possible but No Option of Cancelling

The International Olympic Committee revealed on Sunday that there is a possible of Tokyo Olympics to be delayed due to a global escalated outbreak of coronavirus.

Thomas Bach, the president of IOC wrote on a statement that cancelling a sports event was not an option and a final decision on postponement would be made within the next four weeks. 

On the Monday Morning (March 23), Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has told to the parliament that the Tokyo Olympic Games may be postponed if the summer sports event could not be organised in a “complete form” while excluding a choice of cancellation.

The delay decision came after a mounting pressure from athletes, federations and national committees amid a concern over a new global pandemic, the Covid-19.

Like Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian Paralympic Committee will refuse to send athletes to the Tokyo Olympics if the event is not postponed.

The virus is now killed about 14,000 lives and beyond 330,000 people worldwide are infected. Many nations imposed a radical preventive measures, which mostly have restricted a citizen travelling and encouraged to stay home, along with a social distancing.

However, postponing an Olympic Games is not that easy as numerous stakeholder are involved; an athletes, a sponsors, a accommodation and service businesses, a people who will come to the events, and other sport competitions that would be infected if Olympics delayed.
