Covid-19 Cases Worldwide Reach 12 Million while Australia Reimposes Lockdown


Global coronavirus cases surpassed 12 million on Wednesday with more than 548,000 have been killed by the new respiratory virus, according to latest data compiled by Coronavirus Resource Center of Johns Hopkins University.

 

The United States still stands as the world’s most cases of Covid-19, with over 3 million people infected nationwide and at least 132,000 deaths.

 

Mexico as well on Wednesday has posted a record for highest daily increase in coronavirus cases, with 6,995 new infections, overtaking Spain to register the world’s eighth highest case count, according to a Reuters tally. The overall tally of the disease caused by the new respiratory virus in Mexico currently was at 275,003.

 

Meanwhile, in Australia, the second-largest city Melbourne has reimposed lockdown measures after a spike in new coronavirus cases, causing the state of Victoria to implement “self isolate” order for city. A six-week lockdowns began on Thursday. Australia has so far recorded nearly 8,900 infections and 106 deaths.
