Covid-19 Death Toll Tops One Million
Covid-19 death toll surpassed one million on Monday according to Worldometer, a website that collects coronavirus data from official reports globally. While the number of confirmed cases rose up to 33 million, with more than 24 million recovered.
Latest data showed the fatalities has risen to 1,002,389 since the first case was reported in China in last December. The United States stands as the worst-hit country for both deaths and infections, recording 7,321,343 confirmed cases with 209,453 deaths, followed by India, Brazil and Russia.
The World Health Organization (WHO) on Friday (September 25) warned global death toll could reach 2 million before vaccine readies to use.
“It’s certainly unimaginable, but it’s not impossible, because if we look at losing 1 million people in nine months and then we just look at the realities of getting vaccines out there in the next nine months, it’s a big task for everyone involved,” Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the WHO’s health emergencies program, said in a brief press conference.
