Tokyo Raises Covid-19 Alert to Maximum Level as Daily Cases Jump More than 500
Tokyo, the capital city of Japan, has raised the Covid-19 alert to the highest levels after daily cases in the city jumped more than 500 for the first time, however no new restrictions were imposed during the press conference on Thursday.
The maximum alert of a four-tier scale has been issued as on Wednesday (Nov 18), Japan reported more than 2,000 new Covid-19 cases in a single day amid the resurgence of pandemic.
Tokyo authorities wanted to avoid drastic measures as they try to get the country’s recessionary economy back on track.
Despite no additional restrictions to curb the virus spreading, Governor Yuriko Koike urged individuals to be more cautious, along with suggesting the residents to focus on things such as wearing masks and using disinfectant, and should gather only in small groups for short periods of time.
