UK Approves Pfizer Covid-19 Vaccine for Use by Next Weeks, First Doses to Arrive Soon
The UK has become the first country in the world to approve the Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine for widespread use, expecting people in high priority groups to receive the vaccine as soon as next week.
British’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency said the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is up to 95% effective for protection from Covid-19, therefore it’s safe for launch.
The UK has already ordered 40 million doses for the immunisation of 20 million people and additional 10 million doses should be available soon by 2021.
The target group to receive the vaccine is the people at highest risk including care home residents and staff, followed by people over 80 and other health and social care workers. The first doses are expected to arrive in the UK in a few days.
However, British people still have to follow the social distancing regulations and face masks.
