Global Covid-19 Cases Top 90 Million with Nearly 2 Million Deaths

The Covid-19 cases globally exceed 90 million on Sunday, while nearly 2 million people have died from the virus, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

 

The latest number of coronavirus infections was 90,237,469 and the death toll has reached 1,934,096 across the world. 

 

The US continues to be the worst hit by Covid-19 as the current cases are over 22,000,000 and more than 374,000 deaths, however, about 5 million Americans have already received at least the first of two doses of a coronavirus vaccine since the vaccinated program launched on December 14, 2020.

 

Many countries, mostly Europeans, have rolled out the Covid-19 vaccine and the UK was the first country in the world to authorize the BioNTech-Pfizer vaccine use, and began administering doses on December 8, 2020.

 

Meanwhile, in Thailand, the government expects to import 2 million doses of China’s coronavirus vaccine developer Sinovac Biotech by February-April, 2021 for emergency uses and will start vaccinating the healthcare workers and elders in Feb.   

 

The government also ordered 26 million doses of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, which is anticipated to arrive in Thailand in May.

 

Thailand today reported 249 new coronavirus cases, leading the total infections to 10,547.
