U.S. President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser, Anthony Fauci on Monday remarked, preliminary data from South Africa on the omicron variant do not show surging hospitalization which likely implies there’s not a great degree of severity of the variant.
Anthony further noted, the current administration is reevaluating travel ban from southern African countries as data become more available.
Moderna Inc. President – Stephen Hodge meanwhile said, there might be real risk that the existing variants might be less effective against omicron. However, other major vaccines provides yet to comments until more data becomes readily available.
The omicron variant has spread to at least 17 U.S. states, according to a report by Bloomberg.
