G-7 Leaders to Sit on Tuesday on the Afghan Crisis
Boris Johnson initiated an emergency meeting and expected to call on an extension to the August 31 deadline by the U.S.
G-7 Countries (U.K., U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan) will host an emergency meeting on Tuesday initiated by the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to address the Afghanistan refugee crisis.
Since the Taliban took over the country 10 days ago and declared Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, thousands of Afghans fled to the Kabul airport in an attempt to escape the country. The meeting of the world leaders will revolve around formulating a plan for the self-imposed refugee crisis.
The virtual meeting comes as the deadline closes in the U.S. August 31 complete withdrawal deadline of its forces. The street expects G-7 leaders to place a request on extending the deadline.
Taliban spokesman Suhail Shaheen on Monday told Sky News if President Biden extends the deadline it would mean the U.S. occupation is being extended and “…there is no need for that”
