Kaohoon Morning Brief – 19 October 2021
Morning brief of major stories since the closing of Thai stock market on 19 October 2021.
1) ProShares ET, First Bitcoin ETF, to debut on NYSE
ProShares ETF will provide exposure to bitcoin futures contracts rather than the actual trading of bitcoin itself. ProShares ETF will launch its first trading day in the New York Stock Exchange Tuesday, according to its filing to Securities and Exchange Commission.
2) BoE signals for a rate hike over inflation fear
Sterling reached a 20-month high against the euro on Monday after Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey signalled that the central bank is gearing up to raise interest rates in concerns of the mounting inflation risks. The market expected the central bank to hike rates to 0.25% by November.
3) North Korea fires unidentified projectile into the East Sea
North Korea continued to test its long-range missile as South Korea reported earlier today that Pyongyang fired an unidentified projectile into the East Sea.
4) Oil prices retreated as U.S. factory data fell in September
Oil price pulled back after standing above $86 a barrel on Monday after the report of U.S. industrial output for September fell. Brent crude retreated to $84 and West Texas Intermediate stood above $82 per barrel.
