Shipping Stocks Slide as Freight Rate Continues to Decline
The share price of shipping stocks edged lower, following the decline in global freight rate.
Shipping stocks fell in the morning session on Monday, October 25, 2021, as freight rate continued to decline from its high in early October.
The Baltic Dry Index fell 5.22% on Monday to 4,410 points, while falling by 22% from an early October high of 5,650 points.
The World Container Index also fell from its September high of 10,375 to 9,900 on Monday.
Analysts suspected that it is possible some reduction in available supply is curbing container demand and freeing up some of the additional capacity that carriers have added during peak season, while adding that the price drop also shows that the peak of peak season is over.
As of 10:52 local time in Thailand, the share price of Thoresen Thai Agencies Public Company Limited (TTA) fell ฿0.30/share or 2.48% to ฿11.80/share.
Precious Shipping Public Company Limited (PSL) fell ฿0.50/share or 2.65% to ฿18.40/share.
Regional Container Lines Public Company Limited (RCL) fell ฿0.75 share or 1.74% to ฿42.25/share.
