Thailand today revoked the Test and Go quarantine-free program with immediate effect, citing concerns about the spread of COVID-19 omicron variant.
The Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha at today’s cabinet meeting has ordered the Test & Go quarantine exemption scheme to be revoked from December 21, 2021, onwards after the country has detected nearly 100 omicron cases.
All foreign travelers that have already registered with the Thailand Pass System are still permitted to enter the country, but have to undergo a PCR test and stay in quarantine for 7 days or 10 days.
The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) stated that on January 4, 2022, it will re-evaluate COVID-19 outbreak situations in order to further alter the measures. Despite the omicron spreading ‘significantly faster’ than other variants, the public health authority certainly looks that the virus outbreak can be controlled.
