Advances in technologies are developing at an ever increase pace. Mixed reality apparatuses offer ways to augment the process of learning in ways hitherto were not possible. Microsoft Hololens will be an equalizer in the acquisition of theoretical information from the training processes of various profession fields. In the UK, for example, midwifery students are using augmented reality to help provide imagery of what’s happening in the mother’s womb when babies are born, the BBC reports.

 

3d Metal Printers
3d metal printing was included in MIT’s 10 Breakthrough Technologies 2018. Creating vintage car parts that have been on the production line for decades, or designing and making a functional prototype of a customized car part can now literally be done in the garage. 3d printing may even make obsolete retail of basic metal utensils for some people who prefer to print their own fork, and spoons. Metal joints that connect wood planks into a bed could be made according to customized preferences.

 

Cube Satellites
Conventional satellites are expensive instruments the size of a bus that turn into liability and potential hazards when they become out of service. Now, satellites the size of a small box, the CubeSat, which is 10 x 10 x 11.35 cm, comes packed with components from recycled smartphones and can be launched into space for much cheaper compared to their gigantic predecessors. RocketLab offers a piggyback launch of cubesats for $77,000 for one cubesat unit or $240,000 for three cubesats on its Electron rocket. Sounds like the next problem will be the real estate in earth’s orbit.

 

The life changing advances in the near future seems to be coming in smaller sizes, but with bigger implications than ever before.
