Huawei’s Last Straw to Help Its CFO from Extradition Rests on Today’s Bail Hearings
The last straw to help lower the heat between China and US is the bail hearing in Canada’s British Columbia court, today.
The arrest of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou in Canada has set a new spark on the relationship between the US and China, as Huawei is the top mobile and tech company in China, and Meng also is the daughter of Huawei’s president Ren Zhengfei.
While the extradition is still processing, the court is set to weigh final issues by today in determining whether she should be freed on bail with the help of her lawyer, David Martin.
Martin had been trying everything to bail Meng out. He offers high-tech surveillance devices and a 24-hour security detail to ensure his client does not flee, and also to hand over all Meng’s passports and travel documents to Canadian police as well as a proposal of $11.3 million bail guarantee.
The decision will depend on the judge to decide. Whether the bail is successful or not, the Chinese will not let go of this case easily, and will possibly have a huge effect on the trade war as well.
