NIKKEI: Apple Slashes 1Q19 iPhone Production by 10%
NIKKEI Asian Review has reported that Apple will cut its production plan for iPhones by 10% in the first quarter of 2019.
It has been almost a week that Apple announced that it would miss revenue forecasts at the end of 2018 due to the economic slowdown in China. Today, NIKKEI Asian Review has reported that Apple is slashing its first-quarter production of new iPhones by 10% after a report of Apple asking its suppliers to lower the production late last month.
NIKKEI also states that the source familiar with the matter said that the production volume of iPhones will be reduced to about 40 million to 43 million units for the first quarter of 2019 from an earlier projection of 47 million to 48 million units.
Effects from the decline of Apple can also be seen with one of its Taiwanese iPhone suppliers who provide camera lens for Apple, Largan Precision. The company reported a plummet of 34% of sales in December and 20% in November.
Meanwhile, Catcher Technology, who mostly makes metal frames and does glass back assembly for the XR, said that its revenue in December had declined 28% and expecting sales in the first quarter of 2019 to plunge.
Apple’s 2018 financial statement will be released shortly, but there probably will not be a number of iPhones shipment disclosed in it since Apple said the company will not putting the number on the report.
