SAAM Unveils 3 Power Plant Development Businesses with Strong Projection in Future
In “Kaohoon Live”, Mr. Podduang Kongkamee, CEO of SAAM, has given insights on the company’s business.
Mr. Podduang Kongkamee, CEO of SAAM Energy Development Public Company Limited (SAAM), had joined “Kaohoon Live” and provided more insights about SAAM on January 9, 2019.
While most companies in the market focus on investing in the renewable energy business, SAAM, on the other hand, is a project developer who develops projects to get a license and then look for investors to invest in the project. Even when the project has been taken by investors, SAAM is still the owner of the estate which enables SAAM to earn service fee and ground rent from investors that construct power plants on its land for 20-25 years depending to the contract.
Currently, 75% of SAAM’s revenue comes from service fee and ground rent, while a quarter of the earning from service fee and ground rent comes from SAAM’s power plant with a capacity of 2 MW in Lopburi.
In the meantime, SAAM also enters into a joint venture with various customers to operate solar power plants in Thailand. The company has 17 projects with a total capacity of 41.1 MW that already started feeding electricity.
SAAM’s business can be classified into three categories;
1. Procurement of project site and services in relation to the renewable energy business.
The company has entered into a joint venture with various customers to operate a total of 17 projects with a total capacity of 41.1 MW. SAAM will earn recurring income from service fee and ground rent for 20-25 years depending on the contract.
2. Renewable energy project development for sales business.
SAAM currently has two projects under development in Japan which are SAAM Oita 01 Biomass Power and AAM Oita 02 Biomass Power. Both are renewable energy projects with 20MW capacity and ฿3 billion of investment in each project while having feed-in tariff (FIT) at 24 yen/kWh. Mr. Podduang asserted that SAAM will continuously keep developing renewable energy projects.
3. Renewable energy project investment business.
The company owns a 2MW solar power plant, SAAM-SP1, located in Lopburi with 25 years contract and ฿5.66/kWh FIT.
In addition, SAAM is studying and considering to invest in other renewable energy-related companies, such as, fuel sourcing business and producing and supplying biomass fuel business etc.
