Waves of Voters Pour in at Polling Stations for the First Time since 2014 Coup
On March 24, 2019, Thailand holds its first election since a coup in 2014.
At 8:00, polling stations across the Kingdom of Thailand has opened for voters to cast ballots in the first election since the military coup in May 2014. People were seen queuing up at most of stations even before the opening while voters constantly make a visit to polling stations and starting to grow in numbers as time goes by.
The polling stations will open until 17:00 and according to the Election Commission, an unofficial result is expected to be released around 20:00. The Election Commission expects at least 80% of voters turnout as the advance voting turnout was 87% on the previous Sunday.
According to the data, voter turnout was 75% in 2011, and 74.5% in 2007, then a coup in 2006, a72% in 2005 and 69.9% in 2001.
