Explosion in Sri Lanka on Easter Day Remains Unclear, over 290 Deaths and 500 Injured!

Bombs blasted in Sri Lanka on Sunday while people were celebrating Easter. The explosion was in the morning at 3 churches (St. Anthony’s Shrine St., Sebastian’s Church and the evangelical Zion Church in Batticaloa), 4 hotels (Cinnamon Grand, Shangri-La Hotel, the Kingsbury and New Tropical Inn) and 1 house (Dematagoda, Colombo) in the separate cities of Sri Lanka.

 

On the blasted day, people gathered together for celebrating Easter, although Sri Lanka is a multicultural country which consists of mostly Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Minority of Christian. The situation was extremely frightening and shocked people in the country. More than 290 people were dead and 500 people were injured. 30 foreigners who were identified as tourists and 3 Sri Lanka officers on the duty were killed while 32 foreigners were injured from this explosion.

Up to this time, it is still unclear who and what is the reason for this explosion, but there are 13 suspicious people and they are all Sri Lankans, who have been arrested.

 

A week before the blasted day there was the prior information to warn about the suicide bombers which the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremsinghe was acknowledged and, according to the report, Sri Lanka’s police Chief Pujuth Jayasundara had alerted the top officers, however, A Sri Lanka officer’s spokesperson said the officers had not received this information.

 

For these result, the government announced to impose the curfew immediately: the universities and school were closed, all of the transportation services were stopped and the social media and messaging sites such as Facebook and Whatsapp was blocked to access. The tragedy situation will definitely impact on the tourism industry of Sri Lanka.

The report came in on early Monday that the curfew was lifted, although there was uncharacteristically thin traffic in the normally bustling capital.
