Death Toll Rises to 41 as the Burning Aeroflot Makes Emergency Landing in Moscow

Death toll was reported to be 41 as Russian Aeroflot makes emergency landing in Moscow which led to a burning rear section.


The flight from Moscow to Murmansk, SU1492, by Aeroflot Sukhoi SSJ100 took off by 6.03 p.m. and suddenly turn back to the runway of Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport, due to the technical problem on 6.30. The rear section was ablaze and spilling thick, black smoke.

An inflatable evacuation slide was unfurled for passenger to escape. There were total  78 people onboard, 73 were passengers and 5 crew members. 41 passengers were announced to be dead from this accident.

News agency reported that a “loss of communication” caused by a “lightning strike” had led to the decision to return to Sheremetyevo. However, no official cause has yet been provided for the disaster.
