U.S.-China Cool Trade War Tension, Calling for Truce ahead of the G20 Meeting in Osaka


A source has reported that there could be a truce ahead of the meeting between the two largest economic countries the U.S. and China at the Group of 20 leaders summit in Osaka, Japan, this weekend. The source has also informed that resuming negotiation between Trump and Xi will emphasize on the agreement of additional USD300 billion of Chinese imports which the issue has been discussed for many times since the last year 2018 but it is unsuccessful.

Trump administration said the tax will increase to 25% on the remaining untaxed Chinese goods, if this weekend’s talks is failed. Although impose tariff could be delayed, keeping in mind that nothing is certain. Moreover, on Wednesday, 26 June 2019, Trump has announced that he is preparing to impose additional tariffs on China if the talks in Osaka is not going well and unsuccess.

A source familiar with the matter said resuming talk between Trump and Xi is a good opportunity for both countries to negotiate their deal again. The delay of the additional tariff on China imports might due to President Trump can always have a change of heart because there is not any comment on the report from the White House or the Office of the US Trade Representative.
