The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce has reported that Thai consumer confidence index has fallen from 77.7 in May to 76.4 in June, the lowest since 2017. The index is falling for the fourth month from never-ending political issues, according to Thai Chamber of Commerce. Beside political issues, trade war and poor economic outlook are also hurting the sentiment.
Meanwhile, economic confidence index also dropped from 64.8 to 63.4 , and employment confidence fell by 1.1 points to 72.2 in June.
University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce economist Thanavath Phonvichai says the central bank should lower the policy rate by a quarter point to curb the baht’s appreciation and boost economic growth as well as inflation.
