On August 5, 2019, over 200 flights have been cancelled while transportation is mostly paralyzed in the Asian financial hub as protesters plan for a general strike aiming to bring the city to a pause after weeks of protest in Hong Kong.

Commuters struggled to get to work in the morning, with many rail and bus services suspended, while some activists blocked trains from leaving stations. Some sprayed traffic lights in order to confusion. Meanwhile, the Airport Express train service was also suspended.

Even after all the protest for democracy from the people, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam has yet to resign as requested by protesters while saying that the government would be resolute in maintaining law and order.

Seeing no end in sight for the dispute in the city, HSI fell as much as 3.28% on August 5, 2019, dragging other major indices in the region down as well as SET Index that plunged 12 points before the mid day closing.

Departure and arrival flights of Thai Airways (THAI), Bangkok Airways (BA) and Thai AirAsia (AAV) may have some trouble as they operate Hong Kong route.
