EU Grants a Brexit Extension until January 31, 2020!

On October 28, 2019, the European Union (EU) has granted the U.K. a Brexit delay for another three months.

 

The EU has responded to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s request by grating a new deadline on January 31, 2020 to allow the U.K. to have more time in preparation of exiting the bloc.

 

“With a view to allowing for the finalization of all steps necessary for the ratification of the Withdrawal Agreement, including the obtaining of the consent of the European Parliament, the European Council agrees to a further extension,” the document says. “It notes that the Withdrawal Agreement will enter into force on the first day of the month following the completion of the ratification procedures by the Parties during this period, which ends at the latest on 31 January 2020”.

However, the EU said in the statement to exclude any future renegotiation on the U.K.’s departure after already grating two extensions earlier.

“The European Council firmly states that it excludes any reopening of the Withdrawal Agreement in the future and recalls that any unilateral commitment, statement or other act by the United Kingdom should be compatible with the letter and the spirit of the Withdrawal Agreement, and must not hamper its implementation,” stated in the same document.
