5G: The New Beginning to Reinvent the Thai Economy

5G: The New Beginning to Reinvent the Thai Economy.

The new beginning of the Thai economy is drawing near and the 5G technology will be the main drive in this stage. At the beginning of next year, three operators namely; Advanced Info Service Public Company Limited (ADVANC), Total Access Communication Public Company Limited (DTAC) and True Corporation Public Company Limited (TRUE) will compete in the bidding for 2600MHz which is the best spectrum for 5G technology.

Mr. Takorn Tantasith the Secretary-General of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) in “Kaohoon JorTalad” on December 17, 2019, said that NBTC will consider the request from all three telecommunication operators on opening the bid for 2600MHz only. All the requests and considerations must be finalized within December 24, 2019, in order to propose the plan to the Royal Thai Government Gazette and to be announced later.

As for the bidding date, Mr. Takorn stated that there will be no delay from February 16, 2020, as NBTC would like the investment in 5G to start in the beginning of March which will fasten the process in Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) to be able to open within August – September, 2020. Meanwhile, some of the areas such as Siam Square and Suvarnabhumi Airport are also the places the NBTC would want to open the service for all smartphone users.

NBTC sees an increase in employment rate when applying 5G technology in business in Thailand while individual companies are expected to invest not less than hundreds of billions of baht. The coming of 5G will increase the well-being of people, reducing inequality and driving the Thai economy, not to mention a big change to the world.

All in all, let’s wait and see how 5G technology will reinvent the Thai economy in the near future.
