Breaking News! SET Enforces Circuit Breaker after a Plummet of 10%!

SET Index plunged to 1,124.84 points, declined 10%, triggered the Circuit Breaker System, which was implemented to curb excessive volatility in the market.

As of 14:39 on March 12, 2020, the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Index plunged to 1,124.84 points, declined 10%, triggered the Circuit Breaker System, which was implemented to curb excessive volatility in the market which were in turmoil due to concerns over the spreading of coronavirus.

The market will halt the session by 30 minutes in the first stage of the plummet.

The circuit breaker functions as follows:

First stage: If the SET index falls by 10% from the previous day’s close, all trading in listed securities will be halted for 30 minutes.

Second stage: If the SET index falls by 20% from the previous day’s close (i.e., another 10%), trading in all listed securities will be halted for one hour.

After the second stage, SET will continue matching orders until the market closes and no more halted market.

If the trading time remaining in a session is less than 30 minutes or one hour (as the case may be) after the circuit breaker comes into effect, trading will be halted until the closing time of that session, and trading will then resume in the next session.

However, the trading schedule of Cross-border Products that use the foreign stock, foreign mutual fund or foreign index as the reference asset will not have any intermission session, which may result in different recommendation time from other securities.
