EU Closes Borders for 30 Days, Taiwan Bans Entry to Slow Down the Spread of Coronavirus.

The European Union has agreed among the commission to close the EU’s external borders for 30 days in order to slow down the coronavirus outbreak.

The main objective of this restriction applied to 27 EU members plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, is to reduce non-essential travel from other countries into the union’s area.

The U.K. says that its border is still open while its citizens will still be allowed to travel back and forth into the EU, though the U.K. has already exited the bloc.

The restriction excludes medical staff and import of medicine or supply, while people in the Schengen area can still travel in and out freely.

The measures to control the virus outbreak in Taiwan has been very effective, but the number started to pick up in recent days, which mostly are imported cases, especially from Europe. Today, the Taiwan government has announced an entry restriction for many foreigners.

Foreign migrant workers such as factory workers, home carers and those who are vital to Taiwan’s economy are exempt from this restriction. Nevertheless, everybody who entered Taiwan will be quarantined at home for 14 days.
