Stocks in Asia Mix after Dow Posts Worst 1st Quarter, China Manufacturing Activity Edges Slightly Higher.


Stocks in Asia were mixed on Wednesday morning, following a plummet in Wall Street overnight after the Dow Jones and S&P 500 posted their worst first quarter on record.

 

As of 8:45 local time in Thailand (GMT+7) Nikkei fell 1.36%, HSI plunged 1.26%, Kospi dropped 0.17% while ASX 200 continued its rallies by 2.80% and SSEC edged slightly higher by 0.01%after posting a slight expansion of manufacturing activity in March.

Over the night Dow Jones fell 1.84%, S&P 500 dropped 1.60% and Nasdaq slipped 0.95%. Dow Jones lost 23% of its value in the first quarter, posting the worst record since 1987. The S&P 500 plunged 20% in the first three months, its worst first quarter ever and its biggest quarterly loss since 2008. Meanwhile, Nasdaq posted a 14% drop in the quarter.
