Japan Lifts the State of Emergency, Asking People to Wear Mask and Keep Social Distancing

Japan has announced an end of its state of emergency on Monday after the country was able to control the spread of the coronavirus.

 

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe stated on Monday that the state of emergency will be lifted for all of Japan, allowing citizens to go out freely and businesses to resume operations, and declared a victory over the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

People are requested to refrain from crossing prefectural borders until the end of May and the Japanese government will establish a transitional period and assess the situation development every three weeks. Still, Abe asked people to wear masks, keep social distancing and work from home.

 

Japan reported a total coronavirus cases of 17,323 with a death toll of 852. The country declared a nationwide state of emergency on April 16 to contain the virus outbreak.
