U.S. Protest Gets Out of Hand after 4 Police Get Shot and Trump Aims to Use U.S. Military.
The unrest in the U.S. escalated as four St Louis police officers were reportedly shot by gunfire just a few hours after the U.S. President Donald Trump said he would use the U.S. military to clear “the problem”.
Protesters marched on the street in demonstration since May 25, 2020, after the death of George Floyd, a 46-year-old African American who died after a white police kneed his neck to the ground in an arrest attempt and ended up killing him.
However, the peaceful demonstration turned violence after several people started to smash cars, breaking shop’s windows, which later led to looting, while some set shops on fire.
The police department stated that four St Louis police officers were taken to a hospital with gunfire injuries, but were not believed to be life threatening. Still, the police has yet to confirm where the shots came from and who took them.
The incident occurred just a few hours after Trump made his statement at the White House Rose Garden, saying that he would use the U.S. military to clear “the problem” if mayors and governors fail to do their jobs.
“Mayors and governors must establish an overwhelming law enforcement presence until the violence has been quelled,” said Trump. “If a city or state refuses to take the actions that are necessary to defend the life and property of their residents, then I will deploy the United States military and quickly solve the problem for them.”
