“The Pandemic Is Speeding Up,” Says WHO, “This Is Not Even Close to Being Over”.
The spreading of coronavirus is speeding up, even though some countries already made progress in containing the virus, says Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO) at the media briefing on COVID-19 on June 29, 2020.
“Some countries are now experiencing a resurgence of cases as they start to re-open their economies and societies,” said WHO’s director. “Although many countries have made some progress, globally, the pandemic is actually speeding up.”
“We all want this to be over. We all want to get on with our lives,” added Ghebreyesus after indicating that the six-month anniversary, since the first report of the virus to WHO, of the outbreak coincides with reaching 10 million cases and 500,000 deaths.
