Frozen Chicken from Brazil Contains Coronavirus, Says Chinese Authorities

The city’s government in Shenzhen on August 13, 2020, stated that a sample of frozen chicken imported into Shenzhen from Brazil tested positive for coronavirus.

 

Since the Xinfadi incident that caused the second outbreak in China mid June, the Chinese authorities have been screening meat and seafood imports coming into major Chinese ports. Suspensions of some meat and seafoods from various origins, including Brazil, were made since then to prevent the possibility of another outbreak.

The report of infection on Brazil products came a day after traces of COVID-19 were found on the packaging of frozen shrimp from Ecuador.

Shenzhen’s health authorities tracked and tested everyone who might have come into contact with the foods, but reported no positive cases.
