Breaking News! Japan PM Abe Resigns over Health Concerns, Nikkei Immediately Drops 2%!

Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced his resignation over health concerns. Abe has been shying away from the public in recent weeks, while only making a few press conferences on the occasions such as the 75th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on Aug. 6 and Aug. 9, respectively.

The PM took only a few questions from reporters and made a two-time visit to the hospital this month only saying that he underwent health checkups.

The PM said he would fulfill his duties until the next leader is appointed. His current term was not due to end until 2021.

 

Nikkei immediately dropped 2% after the announcement.
