MCOT’s Directors Keep Resigning, Totaling of 7 since MCOT-Playwork Incident

MCOT Public Company (MCOT) has announced that Mrs. Rachadaporn Rajchataewindra has resigned from the positions as Director, Chairman of Audit Committee, and member of committees of MCOT, effective from November 25, 2020.

 

Since the MCOT-Playwork incident in June 2020, many directors have been resigning from the positions.

The company announced in June that Mr. Piset Chiyasak and Professor Parichart Sthapitanonda had resigned from the Independent Director position. While, Mr. Montri Sanghirun resigned from the Independent Director and Audit Committee position, and Mr. Thanawat Sungthong resigned from his position as Director.

In July, Mr. Suvit Nakpeerayuth resigned from the Director position and Mr. Marut Buranasetkul resigned from the Director and the Member of other committees positions, citing that they disagreed with the disapproval of MCOT’s letter submitted to the National Broadcast and Telecommunication Commission by MCOT’s President.

 

Earlier, MCOT decided to return its 2600MHz license to the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Committee (NBTC) for a compensation of 3,235 million baht. However, the compensation was divided in half and compensated to Playwork Company Limited.

NBTC asserted that the letter, submitted by MCOT’s President Mr. Kematat Paladesh, indicated the compensation to be shared between MCOT and Playwork. After a discussion, the majority of the board of directors agreed on the fact that a president does not have the right to do so, and his action would damage MCOT’s benefit as well as the country as MCOT is a state-enterprise.
