Singapore-Hong Kong Push “Travel Bubble Program” beyond 2020 as Covid Cases Spike Higher

Singapore and Hong Kong have delayed their travel bubble program again after new Covid-19 cases in Hong Kong spiked tremendously since late November.

 

Coronavirus cases in Hong Kong have been on a rise since late November, causing the authorities to announce a postponement on November 21 for their program with Singapore, just 24 hours before the travel bubble program to kick off, by two weeks.

 

Today, the authorities announced another delay for their program without a specific date after Hong Kong reported a resurgence in new coronavirus cases.

“Singapore and Hong Kong have further reviewed the COVID-19 situation in Hong Kong, and given that local unlinked cases are still high, both parties have decided to defer the commencement of the Singapore – Hong Kong Air Travel Bubble (ATB) to beyond December 2020,” the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) said in a statement.

Singapore and Hong Kong stated that they will arrange a meeting to review the situation again in late December to decide the start date of the travel bubble program.

The preliminary plan for Hong Kong and Singapore travel involves travellers having negative test results for the coronavirus, with no restrictions on the purpose of travel and their itinerary will not be controlled. More importantly, travellers will be granted a quarantine-free bubble.
