BGRIM Targets 7,200MW Production Capacity in 2025 with Plenty of Opportunities for Growth

BGRIM Expects to Expand Production Capacity to 7,200MW in 2025, Advancing Its Investment in South Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand.

Mr. Nopadej Karnasuta, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of B.Grimm Power Public Company Limited (BGRIM), revealed that the company planned to expand its production capacity to a total of 7,200MW by 2025 from the current capacity of 3,058MW.

The expansion for more production capacity will mainly be located in South Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand.

Mr. Karnasuta stated that Vietnam is the country where the company is focusing its investment in, especially the investment in renewable energy for both wing and solar farms due to higher electricity demand in the country that follows its growing economy in Vietnam. More importantly, BGRIM still has 2-3 gas-fired small power producers (SPP) power plants with an estimated capacity of 2,000MW, which is in a process of the feasibility study.

As for the investment in Thailand, BGRIM saw plenty of opportunities for M&A and investment in SPP. The company expected the investment in M&A will increase its production capacity by 300-360MW.

The projects in South Korea are both onshore and offshore projects with a total production capacity of 130-160MW, which are in the process of negotiation, expected to be complete in early 2021. Meanwhile, the negotiation with its partners for an M&A of 220-250MW project in Malaysia is expected to show progress in early 2021 as well.

However, Mr. Karnasuta asserted that after a feasibility study for an investment in Taiwan, the result does not reach BGRIM’s standard, especially in the investment return criteria. However, BGRIM is still open for more opportunities, including Taiwan, as the company still has plenty of room to grow.
