The British government began to vaccinate its citizens with Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine after the U.K. drug regulator gave an emergency approval last week. The U.K. started to roll out its first batch of coronavirus vaccine to the public, mainly on elderly, on Tuesday after its Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency said the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is up to 95% effective for protection from Covid-19, therefore it’s safe for launch to the public. As of today, the first Covid vaccine, outside trials, has been shot to an elderly, while the state said that the vaccine will be given to front-line health workers, care home workers and those aged above 80. After the vaccine becomes more widely accessible, it will be given to the U.K. population. Europe has seen an uptick in coronavirus cases as some countries are facing the second and third wave of the outbreak. Yesterday, Europe recorded 153,255 new cases with an additional 3,719 fatalities, adding to the total Covid-19 cases of 18.6 million with 428,068 deaths, according to worldometers.
